Rosseti Centre - Kurskenergo division warns: fishing in protected zones of power lines is dangerous for life and health!

11.06.2019

The security zone of overhead power lines depends on its voltage and ranges from 2 to 55 m. The distance from the ground to the power transmission lines is 6-7 metres, and the length of the fishing rod reaches 7 metres. Modern rods are made of carbon fiber - a material that is a conductor of electric current. Increased humidity within the water reservoir, wet fishing line or rod creates the danger of electric shock.

Therefore, safe places for fishing - away from overhead power lines.

Often, fishermen admit that they saw signs on the poles “Fishing is deadly dangerous!”, but ignore them if they bite in the danger zone and then, they themselves try not to touch the wires!

Touch is optional. So recently, a resident of the Voronezh region died, approaching at an unacceptably close (less than 1 metre) distance to 110 kV overhead power lines.

If you presented a fishing rod to your child, be sure to explain the electrical safety rules, tell them how dangerous the electric current is, that you must first fold the rod when moving under the wires to avoid accidentally touching the wires or approaching the power line very close, to use the rod at thunderstorm.

If slack or broken wire that has fallen to the ground, open doors of electrical installations, as well as damaged poles are detected, in no case should you approach the damaged wires closer than 8 metres and penetrate inside electrical installations. Immediately inform about this by calling the direct line of power engineers at 8 800 50 50 115 (toll-free call) or 13 50 (from landline phones).

“Kurskenergo has developed a comprehensive program of preventive measures for third-party injuries,” stressed Vyacheslav Istomin, the first deputy director and chief engineer of Kurskenergo. “Warning signs are installed near water reservoirs, leaflets with rules of safe fishing are distributed through fishing farms, the branch’s specialists conduct electrical safety lessons in schools and school recreation camps. Only strict observance of the established rules can guarantee safety.”
