04.06.2019

IDGC of Centre - Voronezhenergo division performs systematic work to combat electricity theft. During 4 months of 2019, specialists of the electricity metering department together with specialists of the branch’s security unit conducted more than 150 raids and unscheduled inspections, which resulted in more than 470 facts of non-metered and non-contractual electricity consumption with a total volume of over 2.7 million kWh.

Most of the violations found were committed by individuals: citizens had 412 facts of electricity theft with a total volume of more than 1.9 million kWh. The damage to the electric grid company from their illegal actions exceeded 1.4 million rubles. Inspections and raids of legal entities revealed 61 facts of non-contractual and non-metered energy consumption of about 800 thousand kWh for about 3.27 million rubles.

Under all cases of “energy theft”, acts were drawn up, according to which dishonest consumers must compensate for the damage to the energy supplying organization and the grid enterprise. Violators who do not voluntarily do so will be indebted in court with all legal expenses incurred on the perpetrators.

In addition, for all the revealed facts, applications were sent to law enforcement agencies to initiate administrative offense cases. According to the current legislation, for unauthorized connection to electric grids or non-metered use of electricity, violators, in addition to compensation for damage, also pay an administrative fine, which can reach two hundred thousand rubles. In the case of causing major damage, criminal liability and imprisonment for up to two years is provided for.

The bona fide consumers who regularly pay their electricity bills are seriously affected by criminal actions of the “energy thieves”: attempts to unauthorized connection to electric grids, as well as excessive power consumption bypassing metering devices lead to voltage fluctuations in the grid, the failure of home appliances, and the likelihood of failures, fires and accidents increases.

Voronezhenergo calls upon the residents of the Voronezh region to fight energy thieves in a joint effort. Specialists of the branch promptly respond to all reports of cases of electricity theft, illegal connection to wires, illegal connection of electric welding equipment, violation of the integrity of metering devices, and connection to foreign power facilities. For each request, Voronezhenergo’s employees conduct necessary checks and eliminate all violations as soon as possible. This helps ensure adequate quality of electricity in consumers’ homes.
