Smolenskenergo attracts educated, talented and enterprising young personnel to the industry

30.05.2019

Within the framework of cooperation in the field of digitalization and innovation development, employees of IDGC of Centre - Smolenskenergo division took part in a lecture “The ABC of Digitalization”, which was held on the basis of the Safonovo branch of the Ural State Medical Academy “Smolensk Academy of Professional Education”.

The power engineers introduced second-year students of the specialties “Computer systems and complexes” and “Automation of technological processes and production” with the “ABC of digital transformation” developed by IDGC of Centre. In particular, the students learned about the “Digital Transformation 2030” concept approved by ROSSETI, which implies the complete transformation of the power grid infrastructure by 2030 through the introduction of digital technologies. The experts spoke about the goals and objectives of the electric grid complex in the framework of the implementation of the Digital Transformation Concept. The students learned about who this “digital electrician” is and what the “digital Distribution Zone” is, how the power system of the Smolensk region will change in the coming years. Using the example of the creation of the Unified Grid Control Centre (UGCC) of Smolenskenergo, which is planned in the very near future, the audience was told about the transformation of the power industry. The UGCC will be equipped with digital communication channels and the most up-to-date information systems, which will allow online monitoring of the state of power grid facilities, analyzing the parameters of power quality, coordinating the work of first responding mobile and maintenance crews.

“In connection with the implementation of the program for digitalization of the electric grid complex, the electric power industry needs young, talented, active and initiative personnel who will move the industry forward with their knowledge and ideas. We believe that it is important already at the training stage to acquaint students with digital technologies, intelligent devices and automatic processes in the context of a fast change of information systems and communication channels. So, we will be able to educate a new generation of highly qualified specialists who will easily join the process of digitalization of power grids,” said Dmitry Serenkov, the head of the department of energy conservation and energy efficiency at Smolenskenergo.

In addition to periodic meetings and conversations with the younger generation, production and pre-diploma practices for students of specialized departments are organized annually at sites of the branch, students’ construction crews are working, a vocational guidance program on admission to the university is being implemented - all of this constitutes a set of activities that helps attract educated talented, enterprising young staff to the industry.
