Belgorod power engineers provided lighting of a mass grave in the village of Nikolskoye of Shebekinsky district

07.05.2019

On the eve of the 74th anniversary of the Great Victory, staff of Shebekinsky Distribution Zone of IDGC of Centre - Belgorodenergo division provided lighting of a mass grave in the village of Nikolskoye of Shebekinsky district in the Belgorod region.

To illuminate the site in front of the monument and the adjacent territory, the power engineers levelled and painted poles, installed 14 lighting fixtures and two energy-saving searchlights, laid about 200 metres of a cable power line.

Over 450 Soviet soldiers who died as a result of defensive battles on the Kursk Bulge and operations on the Belgorod-Kursk area were buried in the mass grave.

The monument, erected in May 1965, commemorated the battalion’s feats by Andrey Belgin, who took the main attack of the enemy offensive on 6 July 1943 (out of 500 fighters only one in four survived); the 8th Rifle Company Guards Captain Ivan Ilyasov, who fought off eight enemy attacks and destroyed over 300 enemy soldiers and officers; the 4th Rifle Company Guards Junior Lieutenant Alexey Derevyanko. Here is the glorified sniper, Hero of the Soviet Union, Guards Master Sergeant Nikolay Ilyin, who personally destroyed 459 German soldiers and officers. The names of the heroes - Andrey Belgin, Ivan Ilyasov, Alexey Derevyanko and Nikolay Ilyin - are carved on the memorial plates in the centre of the complex.

In 2015, on the eve of the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory, the monument was repaired, and this year the power engineers provided the lighting of its territory.

Shebekino power engineers perform constant work on the lighting of memorials located in villages and settlements of the district. “It is our credit to our ancestors and the little that we can do,” they say.
