IDGC of Centre - Voronezhenergo division completed the preparation for the thunderstorm period. A set of measures aimed at improving the reliability of the equipment in a period of difficult weather conditions was carried out by Voronezh power engineers taking into account the results of previous periods.
Specialists of the company checked the serviceability of lightning protection and grounding of electric grid facilities, ground wire, overvoltage protection systems of switchgear and power lines. At the inter-district 110 kV overhead line “Bobrov - Buturlinovka-2 No. 2”, a 15.5-km ground wire was completely replaced. Inspections of the technical condition and availability of a reserve of equipment most damaged during thunderstorms: lightning conductors, surge arresters, etc. were carried out. Fault recorders, indicators of fault on power lines are prepared for enhanced operation.
Particular attention is paid to the safety of workers. Voronezhenergo held briefings and training to work out actions in thunderstorm conditions with operating, first responding and maintenance and repair personnel.
The thunderstorm period continues in the Voronezh region from April to October. During this time, substations and overhead power lines are often subject to lightning strikes. The impact of atmospheric electrical discharges is the cause of about 8% of technological disruptions in the operation of electrical equipment. Timely preparation of the regional power grid complex for the thunderstorm season allows minimizing the risk of emergency situations to ensure uninterrupted power supply to consumers.
