The first digital substation to appear in Belgorodenergo

15.04.2019

IDGC of Centre - Belgorodenergo division has started the final stage of the complex modernization of the 35 kV substation “Nikolskoye” in Belgorodsky district. The project envisages an increase in the capacity of the supply centre from 2.5 to 8 MW, the complete replacement of equipment and the transition to digital technology. 286 million rubles were allocated for the project implementation with VAT included.

Digital technologies will be applied in automation systems and equipment control. Instead of obsolete and outdated electromechanical devices of relay protection and automation, modern software systems on the microprocessor element base using the IEC standards (digital substation) integrated with devices of the automated dispatch control system will be installed at the facility. All data on parameters of the substation, emergency processes, telemetry, telecontrol and remote signaling will be transmitted via digital data transmission channels to the Unified Grid Control Centre. This will increase the observability of technological processes, provide remote control of switching devices and relay protection and automation equipment, carry out remote diagnostics and monitoring of the technical condition, as well as significantly reduce the operating costs of servicing the substation.

According to Belgorodenergo’s head of the service of relay protection, automation, measurement and metrology, Oleg Ryadnov, a distributed system of relay protection and automation is being implemented at the substation “Nikolskoye” together with an automated substation control system. The exchange of information between all intelligent electronic devices will be carried out using the IEC 61850-8-1 and IEC 61850-9-2 protocols. Monitoring and control of the main and secondary equipment, engineering, security and other technological systems will be carried out remotely.

Currently, general construction work is underway at the facility. At the site of the outdoor switchgear, modern, highly reliable 35 kV vacuum reclosers are being installed instead of oil switches, equipped with self-diagnostics, residual life monitoring and a current and voltage measurement system built into the switching module. The mass of vacuum reclosers is 10 times less than traditional switches. The warning signal appears on the panel of the dispatcher at detection of malfunction in work.

Domestic-made transformers with an installed capacity of 4000 kVA each were selected as power equipment. They have reduced no-load losses and are equipped with a system that provides continuous monitoring of the state of the transformer during operation.

The 35/10 kV substation “Nikolskoye” is located in a densely populated suburb of the regional centre and provides electricity to a number of localities, as well as to several housing estates of individual housing construction. In total, about 10 thousand people of the population are fed from it, several large and socially significant facilities, including schools, boiler houses, water wells. This is the first digital substation in the Belgorod region reconstructed as part of the digital transformation program of IDGC of Centre - Belgorodenergo division.
