IDGC of Centre - Smolenskenergo division pays special attention to ensuring the environmental safety of production activities, taking measures aimed at preservation of wildlife, as well as prevention of technological disruptions caused by animal exposure.
In accordance with the environmental legislation requirements, overhead power lines from 6 kV and above should be equipped with special bird protection devices. The goal of the activities carried out by Smolenskenergo’s power engineers is to ensure the protection of birds during the operation of power lines, to preserve biological diversity in the region. To implement this requirement, in 2017 Smolenskenergo carried out work on the installation of 1,232, and in 2018 - 2,660 bird protection devices on insulators of overhead power lines of 6 kV and above. In 2019, Smolenskenergo plans to install another 390 bird protection devices.
No less important direction in ensuring the safety of wildlife objects is the use of self-supporting insulated wires in construction, reconstruction of high-voltage lines, as well as connecting new customers. In 2018, 130 km of 0.4-10 kV overhead power lines were reconstructed, replacing the bare wire with self-supporting insulated one (SIW). For 2019, it is planned to replace 226.75 km of SIW. These works not only ensure the safety of animals in the world, but also make it possible to increase the reliability of the energy system and reduce the clearing area of routes.
