In order to ensure uninterrupted and reliable operation of power grid facilities of the Tver branch of IDGC of Centre, it implements a set of technical measures in the run-up to the flood period.
The branch has created a special flood control commission for inspection of power facilities located in areas of increased risk of flooding. A readiness check of personnel and equipment is being carried out. The branch interacts with the regional Rosgidromet authorities, the General Directorate of the EMERCOM of Russia for the Tver region, local authorities in order to obtain predictive and current information about the maximum water levels in rivers, weather conditions that contribute to intensive melting of snow cover and the risk of flooding.
According to forecasts of the Tver Centre for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring, the debacle of the main reservoirs of the Tver region is expected in the period from 25 March for 20-25 days. The intensity of the flood on the territory of the region is within or below the average long-term values.
Tverenergo’s specialists strengthened control over the state of substations, power lines, buildings and structures located in the area of possible flooding. To ensure the normal passage of the flood period in the Tver branch, 13 mobile crews with a total staff of 68 people, as well as 21 vehicles, are in constant readiness.
They checked and prepared for the passage of thawed surface and groundwater drainage devices, drainage ditches. They ensured the removal of melt water from buildings and underground utilities. A check was made of the technical condition of backup sources of electricity supply and their availability, if necessary, for emergency transportation. Monitoring of the flooded areas was carried out and the routes of movement and locations of the backup sources of electricity supply were determined for the power supply of socially significant facilities, the accessibility and power supply of which may be disrupted by the flood.
The interaction with the territorial departments of the river shipping company was established to comply with the rules of safety and protection of power lines and to ensure the necessary dimensions to wires during the passage of vessels, floating equipment and mechanisms at the points of intersection with power lines during a high water level.
During the flood, the branch’s specialists will conduct extraordinary inspections of sections of overhead lines prone to flooding, passing in the floodplains of rivers and marshlands. The power engineers will ensure continuous monitoring of the state of power grid facilities located in high-risk areas.
After the flood passes through the Tver power engineers will inspect all overhead lines, equipment and premises of substations, buildings and structures exposed to melt water to determine the extent of their damage and the need for repair and restoration works.
The timely implementation by the power engineers of all the planned flood measures will contribute to the reliable functioning of the distribution grid complex of the Tver region during the spring flood.
