On 16 March, the final stage of the All-Russian Physical Culture and Training Program GTO (Ready for Labour and Defense) was held at Svetlana Khorkina’s training and sports centre among employees of IDGC of Centre - Belgorodenergo division. 184 power engineers took part in the final competitions as part of 23 teams of Distribution Zones and the executive directorate of the branch.
The GTO festival among the employees of Belgorodenergo took place from April to November last year. During this time, 1,142 people passed the standards for the state requirements of the All-Russian Physical Culture and Sports Complex from the sixth to the ninth level, 709 of them got the GTO gold, silver and bronze badges.
Deputy General Director of IDGC of Centre - Belgorodenergo division director Sergey Demidov opened the sports festival. “Belgorod power engineers traditionally show high results in a number of collective and individual sports. Involving our employees in systematic physical education, increasing the level of physical training, creating conditions that motivate them to play sports, form a healthy lifestyle and generally have a positive effect on the quality and results of work,” he stressed. The branch’s manager wished new sports achievements, faith in themselves and their teammates to the competition participants.
On the final day of the competitions, the most athletic power engineers fought to win, each team included four men and four women. They had to go through six trials: weights jerk, lifting the body from a supine position, bending forward from a standing position on a gymnastic bench, running at a distance of 30 metres, bending and extending the arms from the floor, and swimming at a distance of 50 metres. According to the overall results of the performances, the team of Belgorodsky Distribution Zone won, the second place went to Starooskolsky Distribution Zone, a diploma of degree 3 with Belgorod Distribution Zone.
The sports festival was organized by the leadership of Belgorodenergo and the branch’s primary trade union organization with the support of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports of the Belgorod Region. Chairman of the Belgorod Regional Association of Trade Union Organizations Anatoly Androsovich noted the high level of support for sports activities from the regional department of physical culture and sports and the association of trade union organizations in the region. “The GTO festival is not only a competition, but, above all, the opportunity to communicate in a sporting atmosphere with colleagues from other districts. Sport unites and creates one big team of our company. A good sporting family of our employees is the basis of the welfare of the country as a whole.”
The GTO standards were returned to the modern Russian society in 2014 in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin “On the All-Russian physical culture training program” “Ready for Labour and Defense” (GTO)”. Since 2017, all regions of the country and all categories of the population have been involved in it. The set of physical exercises is calculated on the basis of “steps” or age categories for children and adolescents, men and women. The person who passed the standard, depending on the result, is entitled to a gold, silver or bronze badge.
