Kostromaenergo is ready for the spring flood

11.03.2019

IDGC of Centre - Kostromaenergo division completed the preparations for the flood period. According to forecasts, in the areas of flooding, as well as in sections of ice drift, there may be 174 sections of power lines of the branch - first of all those that cross rivers and pass through their floodplains. To ensure the reliable operation of the region’s power grid complex, during the spring flood, power engineers performed more than two dozen organizational and technical measures. They were supervised by a flood commission under the leadership of Kostromaenergo’s First Deputy Director - Chief Engineer Evgeny Smirnov.

The power engineers inspected the transitions of overhead power lines across rivers, checked the condition of the embankment of the foundations and the protection of the foundations from ice drift at the poles subject to flooding and erosion. In order to eliminate the threat of flooding (underflooding) of equipment and communications, the territory of substations was cleared from snow. For elimination of possible damage to the equipment of substations and overhead lines, emergency stock of materials and equipment, backup power supply sources, mobile pumps, floating equipment, specialized vehicles, operating and backup communication and alert channels has been prepared. Schemes of delivery to the proposed areas of flooding of machinery, materials and equipment have been determined.

During the spring flood Kostromaenergo will set up the round-the-clock duty of first responding mobile crews and specialized vehicles. In total, 133 crews consisting of 515 people, 163 automobile and specialized vehicles are ready for prompt liquidation of possible technological violations at the branch. The power engineers have at their disposal 64 backup power supply sources with a total installed capacity of about 4.14 MW, which can be used to temporarily supply power.

To obtain timely forecasts about the flood situation in the region Kostromaenergo has established effective interaction with the Hydrometeorological Service, local and regional authorities and the General Directorate of the EMERCOM of Russia for the Kostroma region.
