Belgorodenergo modernizes the street lighting of Valuyki with the use of energy-saving technologies

06.03.2019

IDGC of Centre - Belgorodenergo division is implementing a pilot project in Valuysky district to modernize outdoor lighting with replacement of poles for illuminating composite structures and installation of modern LED lighting fixtures.

Power engineers are modernizing outdoor lighting in central streets of the district centre: M. Gorky, 9 January, Proletarskaya, 1 May and St. Razin. In total, there will be installed 340 LED lighting fixtures with average power of about 116.4 W each against 163.6 W for the current ones. According to the calculations of specialists, without reducing the lighting hours and the level of illumination, this will lead to savings in annual electricity consumption by 110.6 thousand kWh, which in monetary terms amounts to 664 thousand rubles of budgetary funds. An additional result of this work will be the aesthetic component and the reduction of the cost of operating the new lighting fixtures.

In addition to the replacement of the lighting fixtures, in the framework of the pilot project, modern decorative structures made of composite material and equipped with internal illumination will appear instead of reinforced concrete and metal outdoor lighting poles in the city park “Molodezhny”. Composite poles are comparable in price to traditional ones, however, in addition to the aesthetic appearance, they have several additional advantages, such as low weight, high strength and resistance to climatic factors, durability and environmental friendliness.

According to Deputy General Director of IDGC of Centre - Belgorodenergo division director Sergey Demidov, if the new lighting system is appreciated by the city’s residents and it will prove itself to be well maintained, this practice will continue in other district centres of the region.

Modernization of outdoor lighting is one of the components of the Agreement on Cooperation between the Government of the Belgorod Region and IDGC of Centre, concluded in December last year in the development of the regional power grid complex. The agreements of the parties relate to the implementation of a whole range of activities aimed at upgrading the grid complex using “digitalization” technologies, including the development of outdoor lighting grids in the region.
