The fifth annual biathlon relay race of IDGC of Centre - Kostromaenergo division, organized by the trade union committee of the enterprise, took place at the sports centre in the town of Sharya. It was attended by eight teams representing Distribution Zones of Sharyinsky Production Region, which unites 7 Distribution Zones, as well as services of substations and high-voltage lines.
The peculiarity of the competitions was that their participants overcame the distance in working uniform and on skis, which are used for inspecting power lines. According to the results of the competitions, the first place was won by the team of Sharyinsky Distribution Zone, the second - by Rozhdestvensky Distribution Zone. Bronze went to power engineers of the Octyabrsky and Vokhomsky Distribution Zones.
Sharyinsky Distribution Zone pays great attention to sports. Every winter, its employees have the opportunity to visit the rink and the city ski centre free of charge. In addition, the Distribution Zone’s team successfully participates in sports events in other regions.
“Biathlon competitions not only popularize a healthy lifestyle, but to some extent improve the professional skills of our employees - after all, they often have to overcome many kilometres of snowy fields to look for damage on lines,” notes Sergey Fokin, the chief of Sharyinsky Distribution Zone. “I am proud of our close-knit, friendly team.”
Interesting sports traditions exist in other districts of the branch. For example, in Makaryevsky Distribution Zone of Kostromaenergo for several years in a row, employees have taken part in the city’s mass cultural event “Makaryevsky Mile”. Open races in felt snow boots are held on a 1076-metre-long track around Makaryev Unzhensky Monastery of the Holy Trinity. Power engineers of Ostrovsky Distribution Zone annually hold spring exercises for all residents of the village, who wish, at the stadium. In Mezhevsky Distribution Zone, they compete in underwater hunting, and Kostrmoskoy and Susaninsky Distribution Zones are famous for trophy raids.
