Voronezhenergo prepares for spring flood

28.02.2019

Specialists of IDGC of Centre - Voronezhenergo division are preparing power facilities for the spring flood period. According to forecasts, about 149 sections of power lines of the branch can be in flooded areas, as well as in sections of ice drift - mainly, these are power lines that cross rivers and pass through their floodplains in the Voronezh region. To ensure their trouble-free operation, Voronezhenergo implements a program of flood control measures, which are continuously monitored by a flood commission chaired by first deputy director - chief engineer of IDGC of Centre - Voronezhenergo division Vyacheslav Antonov.

Voronezhenergo’s specialists conducted an inspection of the lines, checked the condition of borders of foundations and the protection of the foundations from the ice drift at the poles subject to waterlogging and erosion. Also, premises of substations are being cleared of snow in order to eliminate the threat of flooding (waterlogging) of equipment and communications and to ensure that equipment, buildings and structures can be reached by vehicles.

Special attention is paid to energy facilities that were in the flooding area last year. Then the massive melting of snow triggered a rise in the water level in the rivers, with the result that houses, farmsteads, and a number of power facilities in Kalacheevsky, Novousmansky, Anninsky and Bobrovsky districts turned out to be in the flooded area.

In order to monitor the flood situation, collect operational data on the situation on the rivers and urgently inform about the threat of emergency situations, interaction has been established with the territorial bodies of Roshydromet, the General Directorate of the EMERCOM of Russia for the Voronezh region and local authorities.

Voronezhenergo’s specialists developed schemes for arrivals of first responding and restoration crews in the expected flood areas, taking into account possible changes in the river bed. They also developed options for delivery of equipment, materials and vehicles in the event of elimination of possible damage during the flood. Voronezhenergo’s operating, first responding, maintenance and repair personnel were instructed in the safe operation through the flood and in the provision of first aid to water victims.

During the spring flood Voronezhenergo will organize round-the-clock duty of first responding mobile crews and specialized vehicles. In the Voronezh branch of IDGC of Centre, 42 first responding mobile crews of 84 people and 42 specialized vehicles are ready for prompt elimination of possible technological violations. In total, Voronezhenergo is ready to attract 179 crews consisting of more than 900 people and over 300 vehicles to carry out emergency recovery work in the event of an emergency.

In order to organize temporary power supply to consumers in the event of emergency recovery work, more than 100 backup power supply sources with a total capacity of about 2.3 MW can be used.
