Specialists of the branch “Kurskenergo” since the beginning of 2019 recorded 25 facts of electricity theft

22.02.2019

IDGC of Centre - Kurskenergo division continues the systematic work on identification and prevention of non-metered and non-contractual electricity consumption.

From the beginning of the current year, 25 facts of theft of electric energy with a total volume of 0.125 million kWh were recorded during the raid work carried out by employees of Distribution Zones, the electricity metering department, the branch’s security unit. The amount of damage is more than 130 thousand rubles.

One of the largest thefts was found in Kurchatovsky district. During a routine inspection of an individual in the village of Nikolaevka, the power engineers discovered interference in the operation of the metering device, which led to a distortion of data on the amount of electricity consumed. The damage to Kurskenergo amounted to over 40 thousand rubles.

For all the facts of energy theft, acts of non-metered consumption of electricity were drawn up, and applications were filed to the law enforcement agencies to bring persons to justice.

The branch “Kurskenergo” reminds that the legislation provides for severe punishment in relation to energy thieves. In the event of discovery of theft of electricity, the violator not only compensates for the damage to the electric grid company, but is also brought to criminal (the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, Art. 165 Part 2) or administrative liability with a fine (Art. 7.19 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation).

Conscientious consumers who regularly pay their electricity bills suffer greatly from criminal actions of thieves: due to theft, power surges occur, household appliances break down, probability of failures, fires and accidents increases.
