Lipetsk power engineers of IDGC of Centre announced an exercise to combat losses in electrical grids

14.01.2019

Lipetskenergo begins work on the digital transformation of the region’s power grid complex.

IDGC of Centre - Lipetskenergo division announced regional exercises in the territory of Gryazinsky and Chaplyginsky districts open. Power engineers here will conduct a comprehensive check of power lines and transformer substations, as well as equip them with modern smart metering. The purpose of these actions is to reduce losses in electrical grids and implement the concept of ROSSETI on digital transformation. It implies a complete transformation of the power grid infrastructure by 2030. One of the first stages of this large-scale work is the modernization and implementation of high-tech metering systems.

So, until 31 March, 1,300 overhead lines of 0.4–10 kV will be checked in two districts of the Lipetsk region and more than a thousand metering units will be installed. For two and a half months the annual amount of work will be completed. As a result, dispatchers of Lipetskenergo will be able to see on monitors a specific transformer substation where technological violation occurred. As a result, the time required for troubleshooting is reduced by a third. The volume of electricity losses as a result of the exercise will decrease by 10%, which will lead to an increase in the quality of electricity supply.

“The main source of losses is theft of electricity. Today, the amounts we under receive are estimated at millions of rubles. This is the money that should be used for reconstruction of overhead lines and substations, repairs and construction of new facilities. The smart metering system will allow to identify those who do not want to correctly pay for consumed electricity. Accordingly, there will be more funds for development of the power grid complex and provision of reliable power supply to the Lipetsk region,” explained Vladimir Tikhonov, the head of the exercise headquarters, the chief engineer of IDGC of Centre - Lipetskenergo division.

The exercise will be attended by 172 people and 47 specialized vehicles from all districts of the Lipetsk region.

The power engineers warn that during the installation of smart metering units there may be interruptions in the power supply to consumers in Chaplyginsky and Gryazinsky districts. This is a necessary measure, which is connected with the need to ensure the safety of personnel of the power grid company and residents during the work. Schedules of work will be formed taking into account the wishes of heads of municipalities. The outage schedules will be published on the official website of IDGC of Centre at www.mrsk-1.ru (in the section “Clients - Electricity transmission - Planned outages” or in the section “Information about outages - Report outages”). You can also find out the time and date of scheduled outages by calling the direct line of power engineers at 8 800 50 50 115 and in the unified dispatch service of each municipality.
