06.12.2018

IDGC of Centre - Smolenskenergo division continues to combat the illegal consumption of electricity. During 10 months of 2018, in the course of conducting targeted raids, check of metering devices installed by legal entities and persons equal to them, facts of electricity theft by 284 individuals and 57 legal entities were revealed. This was 5.4 million kWh or 18.9 million rubles. For the same period last year, 710 cases of electricity theft were recorded in the amount of 23.3 million rubles.

The most common methods of theft in the Smolensk region are still connection of the load before the metering device and interferance with the work of metering devices in order to distort the measurement results. In the course of the raids, the power engineers drew up acts of violations, according to which consumers must compensate the damage caused to the energy company. The funds must be paid within the statutory deadlines, otherwise the branch will be forced to collect them by force of the court. Harder, but legal measures - power outages, administrative or even criminal liability are applied to malicious violators.

Please, do not forget that the actions of intruders not only can harm their health and pose a threat to life, but also lead to disruptions in the power supply to bona fide consumers, decrease in the quality of electricity, increase the probability of failure of household appliances. As a result of illegal connections, power equipment may be damaged, leading to power outages, unplanned repairs and additional investments that could be used to develop and modernize power grid facilities. It should be remembered that unpaid electricity is the underfunding of production programs of power engineers, the reliable uninterrupted functioning of the entire energy system of the region depends on the successful implementation of these programs.

Smolenskenergo’s specialists request bona fide consumers to report all facts of illegal connections via the round-the-clock phone line of IDGC of Centre - 88005050115 (toll-free) or 13-50 from landlines. Not only the electric grid company, which incurs losses, suffers from illegal actions of consumers, but also bona fide citizens, who regularly pay electricity bills, so consumers who use electricity legally should understand that they pay for the theft of unscrupulous consumers. Smolenskenergo recalls that the facts of energy stealing will be revealed with no doubt, which will entail the punishment provided by law. In case of detection of theft of electricity, the offender will not only compensate for the damage, but will also be brought to administrative or criminal liability.
