Yarenergo to install 21 reclosers in 6-10 kV distribution grids

29.11.2018

Modern equipment will appear on power grids of IDGC of Centre - Yarenergo division in Nekrasovsky, Bolsheselsky, Danilovsky, Pereslavsky, and Yaroslavsky municipal districts. The works will be carried out within the framework of the branch’s target program: “Reconstruction of the 6-10 kV distribution grid: installation of reclosers”.

The most common reasons for occurrence of technological violations on overhead power lines are clashing of wires in a strong wind, contact of wires with branches of trees, sparkover of insulators as a result of thunderstorm activity, and action of birds.

In the event of emergency situations on the 10 kV overhead line, fault location and restoration of power supply to consumers in intact sections by performing operational switching are done manually by personnel of first responding mobile crews. To perform these operations, specialists need to get to sections of sectionalizing, switch off the faulty section and switch on the overhead line again. Often, overhead lines are located in inaccessible areas, pass through forests or swampy areas. All these factors lead to an increase in the restoration time of power supply to consumers.

A recloser is a circuit breaker that switches off the faulty section of the line in the event of an emergency. In addition, these intelligent switching devices can automatically connect intact sections to a backup power source. By installing reclosers and other switching devices that segment an overhead power line, a significant part of such switching is performed remotely, automatically according to a software-defined algorithm. Accordingly, the average restoration time of power supply to consumers is reduced from several hours to several seconds.

The effect of the implementation of the program “Reconstruction of the 6-10 kV distribution grid: installation of reclosers” will be a reduction in the failure rate, the labour intensity of grid maintenance and an increase in reliability indicators. It is planned to spend about 37 million rubles on the works.

Also, in order to improve the reliability of power supply to consumers in the region, uninsulated wire on 6-10 kV power grids is annually replaced with self-supporting insulated wire SIW-3. The total amount of replacement of bare wire for self-supporting one for this year is over 60 kilometres.
