Power engineers of IDGC of Centre install innovative poles in districts of the Lipetsk region

Lipetskenergo reconstructs overhead power lines.

Power engineers of the branch of IDGC of Centre began reconstructing two power lines using innovative technologies. Old reinforced concrete poles are replaced with modern ones with composite materials. They have dielectric properties, are not subject to corrosion and, therefore, durable.

“Composite poles are much lighter than metal and reinforced concrete ones. Therefore, they are easy to transport and install. One crew of power engineers per day can install two modern poles. Accordingly, the reconstruction of high-voltage lines takes much less time,” explained the advantage of composite poles Deputy Director for Capital Construction of IDGC of Centre - Lipetskenergo division Sergey Dmitriev.

A pre-project survey conducted by Lipetskenergo’s specialists showed that it was necessary to replace the poles on the 110 kV overhead line “Dvurechki”. This line with a length of 20 kilometres was constructed more than forty years ago. It provides electricity to villages of Lipetsky and Gryazinsky districts, as well as industrial facilities of the Special Economic Zone “Lipetsk”. Now on the line eight composite poles are being installed. Next year, the reconstruction of the overhead line “Dvurechki” will continue.

Large-scale works are currently being carried out on the 110 kV overhead line “Lebedyan”. 27 composite poles will be installed there. On this high-voltage line, 37 kilometres of the ground wire will be replaced with a modern, non-corrosive cable. Its service life is at least 50 years. Short circuit indicators will be installed on the line. Thus, the electricity supply of Lebedyansky, Dankovsky and Krasninsky districts will become more reliable. In addition, the Druzhba pipeline is powered from the line “Lebedyan”.

The power engineers use polymer insulating traverses on both lines. When applying them, there is no need for insulators. Thus, with the same height of the composite and reinforced concrete poles, the wire, fixed by traverses, will be one metre higher from the ground, and therefore the sag height will be reduced.

In total, for nine months of this year, Lipetskenergo reconstructed 171 kilometres of high-voltage lines, 104 substations, and commissioned 17.2 MVA of capacity. The branch of IDGC of Centre invested more than 571.5 million rubles in the electric grid complex of the region.

“In the energy industry there are no trifles. One worn out pole or one section of sagging wire can lead to interruptions in power supply in several localities at once. That is why the detection of defects on power lines is carried out systematically, repairs are performed immediately, reconstruction is carried out comprehensively,” explained the approach to maintaining the regional power grid complex Director of IDGC of Centre - Lipetskenergo division Sergey Koval.
