IDGC of Centre - Smolenskenergo summed up preliminary results of readiness for the autumn-winter period of 2018-2019. In September, all the planned work on clearing ROWs of power lines was completed. Smolenskenergo’s power engineers cleared from vegetation and bushes 1,542.34 hectares of ROWs of 6-110 kV overhead lines. 55.59 million rubles were allocated for this work. The largest amount of work was performed in the central service area (Yartsevsky, Safonovsky, Dukhovschinsky and Dorogobuzhsky districts). The work was carried out by both contracting organizations with the necessary specialized vehicles, and the company’s specialists manually using brush cutters and chainsaws.
Clearing involves freeing of lines of power lines not only from small trees, but also from shrubs and small vegetation. According to the results of the work, the overall reliability of the power grids is increased, the probability of technological disturbances due to adverse weather events, the consequences of which are touching branches with wires, is reduced. In addition, on cleared ROWs, it is more convenient to perform work during the line operation.
In the course of work, the power engineers try to keep the lines operating not to cause inconvenience to consumers of electricity. All work is carried out in strict accordance with the safety rules during the operation of electrical installations.
The plans for clearing ROWs are implemented by the power engineers annually. The most active phase of their implementation is the spring and summer period, but work on clearing and expanding the ROWs continues, as a rule, until the end of September.
The quality of the work carried out and the level of readiness of the branch for the upcoming winter will be assessed by a commission of representatives of IDGC of Centre. The result of the commission’s work will be the receipt by the branch of the Certificate of readiness - the main document confirming the availability of the power grid complex for the autumn-winter period of 2018-2019.
