Smolenskenergo started the action "Current to lock"

28.09.2018

Twenty branches of IDGC of Centre and IDGC of Centre and Volga Region will hold a social action that should draw the attention of the general public to cases of electric injuries arising from illiterate and unsafe behaviour near power facilities whose locking devices are damaged by vandals. IDGC of Centre - Smolenskenergo division held the first event on 25 September 2018 in the courtyard of multi-storey buildings in the city centre on Tenishevoy Street. Actions are also planned in schools and kindergartens of the city of Smolensk, in courtyards of sleeping districts of major cities of the region.

In the course of the action, activists will place special information stickers on doors of power facilities, urging citizens not to remain indifferent, and in case of an open door or a damaged lock, make a call to the energy company. Volunteers will pay special attention to energy facilities located in areas of presence of children and young people: school grounds, courtyards, parks of culture and recreation. The organizers of the action in Smolensk will be young Smolenskenergo’s employees who will communicate with children, telling about the danger of electric current and putting up thematic stickers with kids on the energy facilities of the regional centre.

The program for the prevention of electric injuries is annually implemented on the territory of all settlements within the service area of energy companies. It involves both informational and technical activities. Power engineers conduct lessons with children, take part in parental meetings, post social media clips, etc. It is obvious that destructive actions of vandals are more difficult to foresee and prevent than to avoid a possible injury of the child without allowing him to enter premises of the power facility with a damaged lock or making a call to the power company. However, during campaign events, specialists of the energy company often face the fact that residents do not have information on where to call if the door of the transformer substation in the courtyard of the house is open, or the lock is broken on the fence of the power facility. The action "Current to lock" is designed to provide the necessary information to citizens and will speed up replacing the faulty locking device to prevent an injury or tragedy. Thus, one call can save several lives.

The action "Current to lock" will involve all production departments of energy companies to cover the maximum number of energy facilities and to protect the largest number of children and adolescents.
