27 September 2018, within the framework of the All-Russian Festival of Energy Saving #VmesteYarche 2018 IDGC of Centre - Smolenskenergo division held an open doors day. Students of the 1st-2nd courses of the master’s program of the branch of the National Research University "MPEI" in the city of Smolensk came to power engineers. The tour was held in the very heart of the power grid company - the Grid Control Centre (GCC).
During the tour the deputy chief engineer for operational and technological and situational management, the head of the GCC, Sergey Shumarov, acquainted the students with the structure of Smolenskenergo, showed the main premises of the Grid Control Centre, and talked about the necessary equipment for operation. It is in the GCC that all information about the state of substations and overhead power lines goes. The future power engineers listened with interest to the story of how remote control of power facilities is conducted, how modern technologies help operators in real time monitor the operation of power facilities that are located in different districts of the region. The guests could not only watch the operators’ work in real time, but also communicate with them, ask questions about the work, the history of the development of the Grid Control Centre.
The All-Russian Festival of Energy Saving #VmesteYarche is conducted at the initiative of the Ministry of Energy of Russia with a view to developing a culture of respect for nature and promoting modern energy-efficient technologies. That is why, at the end of the tour, the future power engineers got acquainted with modern technologies, which are implemented in the electric grid complex of the region.
