Smolenskenergo revealed 240 facts of electricity theft in the first half of the year

13.09.2018

IDGC of Centre - Smolenskenergo division continues to fight against illegal electricity consumption. During the first half of 2018, power engineers conducted various measures to prevent non-metered and non-contractual electricity consumption. These include conducting targeted raids, during which metering devices installed by legal entities and persons equal to them are checked. In the course of the inspections, specialists discovered the facts of electricity theft with 203 physical persons and 37 legal entities. This amounted to 3.9 million kWh, or 13.9 million rubles. Over the same period last year, 457 cases of electricity theft for a total of 13.4 million rubles were recorded.

The most common methods of theft in the territory of the Smolensk region continue to be the connection of the load before the meter and interference in the operation of metering devices with the aim of distorting the results of measurements. During the raids the power engineers drew up acts of violations, according to which consumers must compensate the damage caused to the energy company. The money must be paid within the statutory deadlines, otherwise the branch will be forced to collect them forcibly in court. More stringent, but legal measures are applied to persistent violators - power outages, administrative or even criminal liability.

Please, do not forget that the actions of violators not only can damage their health and pose a threat to life, but also lead to power failures to good consumers, a decrease in the quality of electricity, and an increase in the probability of failure of household appliances. As a result of illegal connections, power equipment may be damaged, which leads to interruptions in power supply, unplanned repairs and investments of additional funds that could be used to develop and modernize power grid facilities. At the same time, it is worth remembering that unpaid electricity is the underfunding of the energy company’s production programs, on the successful implementation of which the reliable uninterrupted operation of the entire energy system of the region depends.

Specialists of Smolenskenergo refer with a request to conscientious consumers to report all facts of illegal connections through the round-the-clock hotline of IDGC of Centre - 8 800 50 50 115 (free of charge). Consumers who use electricity legally should understand that they pay for theft of unscrupulous consumers. Reporting known facts of violation of the law will contribute not only to suppressing the theft of electricity, but will also prevent negative consequences.
