Smolensk power engineers evaluated the advantages of working with modern self-supporting insulated wire

12.09.2018

In Smolensk in August, a two-day training seminar for masters and chief engineers of all Distribution Zones of IDGC of Centre - Smolenskenergo division was held. The seminar was devoted to methods of construction and operation of overhead power lines.

The event consisted of theoretical and practical parts. The Smolensk power engineers got acquainted with technical solutions for the design and operation of overhead lines, using self-supporting insulated wire (SIW) and aluminum wire with a steel conductor (AC) for 0.4-110 kV overhead lines, together with fittings for self-supporting insulated wire. The theoretical part took place on the site of Smolensky Distribution Zone of IDGC of Centre - Smolenskenergo division and included the study of the nomenclature of various types of line fittings for low and medium voltage overhead power lines and devices for conducting assembly works with self-supporting insulated wire.

During the practical works at the training centre of IDGC of Centre - Smolenskenergo division, the running-off operation of 0.4 kV SIW wires and their anchor and intermediate connection to poles were carried out, customers’ taps and SIW connections were performed in the span. The power engineers were able to independently perform a number of operations for the installation of overhead lines and in practice to assess the advantages of the proposed solutions.

As a result of the seminar, all participants received a certificate of completion of the training.
