The branch "Yarenergo" held exercises on working out the elimination of mass outages

IDGC of Centre - Yarenergo division held exercises to eliminate mass outages of power grid facilities caused by impact of unfavourable meteorological phenomena. The branch worked out the cooperation with municipal services, territorial authorities, the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

According to the plan of the exercise, on the night of 20-21 November 2018, as a result of passage of a cyclone through the territory of the Yaroslavl region and sharp deterioration of weather conditions caused by precipitation of large amount of icy rain and gusts of wind up to 25 m/s, there were mass outages of power grid facilities of Yarenergo due to falling trees onto poles and wires of power lines. This resulted in power outages for the population, enterprises and socially significant facilities in 4 districts of the Yaroslavl region: Tutaevsky, Danilovsky, Pervomaisky and Lyubimsky. The most difficult situation was in Nekouzsky district, Nekrasovsky and Pereslavsky Distribution Zones.

The energy company immediately begin to eliminate the effects of icy rain. Together with the EMERCOM of Russia for the Yaroslavl region and municipalities, they arranged for clearing of roads and access roads from snow and fallen trees to sites of emergency recovery work. In the most affected areas, as the operational situation worsened, additional forces and means, reserve sources of electric power, were transferred from neighbouring districts and regions.

The branch "Yarenergo" introduced high-availability and special operating modes, Yarenergo’s headquarters gathered. There is an information interaction with the regional headquarters, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Single Call Centre, housing and communal services, the media, consumers. The headquarters conducts a regular analysis of the operational situation, the distribution of additional forces and means arriving from other districts of Yarenergo and organizations, coordinates emergency recovery operations and actions of the branch’s offices until the end of the emergency recovery operations and the complete restoration of electricity supply to consumers.

"The main goal of our exercises is in the unstable climatic conditions of the Yaroslavl region during the autumn-winter period, when ice rains often fall out, heavy snowfalls occur that cause power supply disruptions, to check and improve the work of Yarenergo’s headquarters," concluded Deputy General Director of IDGC of Centre - Yarenergo division director Anton Gerasimov. "On the eve of the winter, we must be prepared for any contingency caused by unpredictable weather conditions. Such joint exercises allow improving the mechanism of interaction of the parties involved in emergency situations, the consequences of which are promptly eliminated in real conditions."
