Employees of Smolenskenergo honoured the memory of those who died in the Great Patriotic War and congratulated veterans

Every year on the eve of the Victory Day, employees of IDGC of Centre - Smolenskenergo division throughout the region put in order the territory of military memorials - plant trees near memorial complexes, clean up debris and foliage from the territory, paint fences. On the eve of the 73rd anniversary of the Great Victory, this work is conducted within the framework of the historical and memorial project of IDGC of Centre "Light of Memory".

So, at the beginning of May, representatives of the Youth Council of the branch for the second year in a row took the initiative and took part in the landscaping of the site of the first burial place of the Hero of the Soviet Union, a partisan-demolisher Vladimir T. Kurylenko in the village of Vystavka in Demidovsky district of the Smolensk region.

Employees of Kardymovsky Distribution Zone cleaned the area near the mass grave in the village of Gorodok, painted fences, and Vyazemsky Distribution Zone was involved in cleaning the Memorial to prisoners of the fascist transit camp "Dulag-184".

Employees of Temkinsky Distribution Zone together with representatives of the search group "Hope" in the territory of the Pavlovsk rural settlement landscaped the Memorial to the memory of soldiers of the 222nd rifle division of the 33rd Army located in the village of Dubna. The power engineers carried out work on cleaning the territory of the monument, cutting and removing old trees, planting young oaks and chestnuts.

In addition, employees of the Smolensk branch of IDGC of Centre always take an active part in solemn events dedicated to the celebration of the Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War. In the hero-city of Smolensk, they participated in a solemn meeting at the military grave "Blade", laid wreaths to graves of soldiers, who died in battles for the Smolensk region. Solemn rallies with participation of employees of the branch of Smolenskenergo were held in the cities of military glory of Elnya and Vyazma, as well as in other settlements of the region.

Among the veterans of Smolenskenergo there is currently one veteran of the Great Patriotic War, 17 veterans of the labour front, 14 prisoners of concentration camps and one resident of besieged Leningrad. Power engineers do not forget their senior colleagues, therefore annually honour former employees. Leaders, representatives of the trade union organization, the Youth Council and the Veterans’ Council of Smolenskenergo made speeches with congratulations to those, who came to the solemn event, held in the executive office of the branch on 7 May 2018.

Before the holiday, members of the Youth Council posted greeting cards on entrances of war veterans living in the city of Smolensk. In addition to warm words of congratulations for the veterans, the leaflet announces their exploits and destinies, so that people living with them in one house could get to know each other and congratulate their neighbours, whose childhood or youth passed in the war years. This action has been taking place for the sixth year in a row, in 2016 colleagues from other branches of IDGC of Centre joined it.
