In 2018 Smolenskenergo to install 2,615 bird protection devices on overhead power lines

IDGC of Centre - Smolenskenergo division pays special attention to ensuring environmental safety of production activities. One of the directions of the Environmental Policy Program, which is implemented to reduce the negative impact on the environment, is to ensure the safety of fauna.

In accordance with the requirements of environmental legislation, overhead power lines from 6 kV and above must be equipped with special bird protection devices. To implement this requirement, in 2017 IDGC of Centre - Smolenskenergo division installed 1,232 (of which 159 on 6-10 kV lines and 1,073 on 35 kV lines and above) bird protection devices on insulators of poles of 6 kV overhead power lines and higher, which is 78% more than it was in 2016. In 2018, Smolenskenergo plans to install 2,615 bird protection devices.

The purpose of the activities, performed by Smolenskenergo’s power engineers, is to ensure the protection of birds during the operation of power lines, to preserve biological diversity in the region. Specialists of the branch among the first in the regions of Central Russia began work on the installation of bird protection devices, as in the territory of the region there is the National Park "Smolensk Lakeland", where 190 species of birds indwell, including rare species, listed in the Red Book of Russia and other countries of the world. There the Demidovsky Distribution Zone of the branch in 2015-2017 installed 87 bird protection devices.

An equally important area for ensuring the safety of wildlife objects is the use of self-supporting insulated wires, they also allow to increase reliability and reduce the cutting area of ​​ROWs clearing.
