74 Smolensk schoolchildren took part in the All-Russian Olympiad of "Rosseti"

The first qualifying round of the All-Russian Olympiad of schoolchildren of "Rosseti" in the Smolensk region, organized by IDGC of Centre - Smolenskenergo division, was held on 31 March and 1 April 2018 on the site of the branch of the National Research University MPEI in the city of Smolensk. The main goal of the Olympiad is to identify talented schoolchildren capable of technical creativity and innovative thinking, planning their professional activities in the electric power industry and to involve them in the development of advanced infrastructure and technology projects relevant to the power grid complex of the Russian Federation.

Among those wishing to test their knowledge were 46 pupils of the ninth grade and 28 tenth graders from nine schools of the region. The largest number of applications for participation in the Olympiad (61) came from school No. 33 in the city of Smolensk, where there are specialized energy classes. In addition to the Smolensk schoolchildren, 10 senior pupils from Sychevka, Roslavl, Glinka and Yartsevo took part in the Olympiad.

"When we found out about this Olympiad, we became very interested. Personally, I was interested to see the level of tasks, take part and compete for a place in the next stages, try myself in the role of the future power engineer and get acquainted with representatives of the specialized university and energy company," said a pupil of the 10th grade of physics and mathematics of the Lyceum named after Cyril and Methodius Victoria Moiseenkova.

At the opening ceremony, the parting words were addressed to the participants by Acting Director of IDGC of Centre - Smolenskenergo division Vitaly Mordykin, Deputy Director for teaching and educational work at the branch of NRU MPEI in the city of Smolensk Vyacheslav Rozhkov, Deputy Head of the additional education department, organizational and mass educational work of the Department of Education and Science of the Smolensk region Oksana Burenkova. Representatives of the HR department of Smolenskenergo told the future applicants about conducting targeted career guidance work among youth and schoolchildren and supporting students in specialized specialties. So, for example, in the 2017-2018 academic year 27 full-time students grant-aided students of IDGC of Centre and receive a corporate scholarship. In accordance with their concluded contracts, all of them after the graduation will come to work at the grid company.

The participants on the first day carried out tasks aimed at checking the level of knowledge in the programs of secondary general education in computer science and mathematics, and on Sunday they solved assignments in physics. Each subject was given for 2.5 hours. Sets of variants of assignments were developed by the methodical commission of the Olympiad. It also established common criteria and methods for verifying the work, which will be done by the regional commission then. It included teachers of the branch of NRU MPEI in the city of Smolensk - associate professors of various departments: Roman Solopov, Alexander Bykov, Sergey Obraztsov, Vladimir Bobkov. Also, the jury included Deputy Chief Operating Engineer-Head of the High-Voltage Grid Office of Smolenskenergo Yury Krivtsov. The chairman of the jury was Alla Korolkova, the head of the HR department at IDGC of Centre - Smolenskenergo division.

Winners and prize-winners of the first stage of the Olympiad will be determined among the 9th and 10th graders until the middle of April, the awarding ceremony will be held on 21 April.
