31 March and 1 April in Belgorod, the regional stage of the All-Russian Olympiad of PJSC "Rosseti" for schoolchildren was held. Tasks in physics, mathematics and computer science were solved by about 70 pupils of the ninth and tenth grades from various districts of the region. The organizer was IDGC of Centre - Belgorodenergo division with the support of the regional department of education and the Belgorod Technological University named after V.G. Shukhov (BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov).
The Olympiad in specialized subjects for the group of companies took place simultaneously in all regions of the service area of PJSC "Rosseti" in order to identify gifted, capable of creative and innovative thinking high school pupils who are planning their professional activities in the electricity industry. In the Belgorod region, the site for the event was BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov.
Sergey Demidov, Deputy General Director of IDGC of Centre - Belgorodenergo division director, stressed that the university is the main partner of the branch for training of qualified personnel for work in the energy sector. Future power engineers from the school bench should be set for higher engineering education. New tasks in the sphere of digitalization of the industry, transfer of energy to innovative rails require fundamentally new approaches to their solution. Today’s high school pupils can already tomorrow become authors of successful developments, new projects and innovative start-ups.
A chief specialist of the regional department of education Evgeniya Kovalevskaya explained that the Olympiad of "Rosseti" is organized on the principle of the All-Russian Olympiad of schoolchildren. The main difference is the fact that winners are determined by the sum of points scored simultaneously in three subjects, provided that their number in each subject is not less than 40. To avoid bias, the regional jury of the Olympiad, formed of representatives of the faculty, will evaluate the work in encoded forms. Final protocols will be posted on 4 April at the site of the "Olympics of Belogorie schoolchildren" at http://olymp.beluno.ru/.
One of the first to fulfill the tasks was a pupil of the 10th grade of the Belgorod Engineering Youth Lyceum Denis Shakhno. In his opinion, for a person who is interested in technical sciences, the execution of tasks will not be difficult, although here and there it was necessary to include both logic and spatial thinking. "I was interested in the idea of a comprehensive examination of knowledge in three subjects at once," Denis said. "I wanted to know my own gaps and eliminate them in time."
Winners and prize-winners of the regional qualifying round will be participants of the final federal stage, which will be held in Moscow on 21 April. Pupils from different regions of the country will be able to compete with their peers in the ability to apply the knowledge gained in practice when solving applied problems in the field of electric power. In addition, as Director of the small technological university, Natalia Altynnik, noted, upon admission to the BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov all winners and prize-winners will receive five and three points to the results of the Uniform state exam, respectively. The award ceremony of winners of the All-Russian Olympiad will be held in May 2018 in Moscow. In the future, the event will be annual.
