Smolenskenergo conducts systematic work on the prevention of electric injuries among residents of the region

25.01.2018

In 2017, IDGC of Centre - Smolenskenergo division continued to work on the implementation of a program to reduce risks of injuries to third parties at power facilities of the branch.

In accordance with the program specialists of Smolenskenergo conducted regular inspection of power facilities of the branch for the integrity of doors, locks, and the presence of locking devices. As part of the implementation of the set of technical measures, 11,269 km of uninsulated wire was replaced by self-supporting insulated wire (SIW) on 10/0.4 kV power lines passing through territories of places of mass residence: schools, playgrounds, densely populated residential buildings, etc. On all power facilities of the branch signs and posters are placed indicating the danger of electric current. These measures contribute to reducing the risk of electrical injury to third parties who are near electrical installations.

Particular attention is paid to advocacy among various groups of the population. In the electronic and print media of the Smolensk region there are memos posted on electrical safety for construction, agricultural and other enterprises, on operation of autonomous power sources, memos for parents and teachers on children’s electrical safety, fire safety, and rules of conduct in a thunderstorm.

Information about the safety of flights near power lines was sent to aeroclubs of the region. Thematic memos on safety near power facilities were distributed in fishing shops, through the State Inspection of Small Vessels of the EMERCOM of Russia, in schools, summer recreation camps, horticultural associations.

Particular attention was paid to the explanatory work with kids in children’s health camps and schools of the region. In total, during 2017, Smolensk power engineers conducted 135 classes (including 26 in the summer), during which they with teachers and educators told the children about electrical safety. The events were held in all districts of the region without exception. The rules for safe handling of electricity thanks to the power engineers were repeated by about seven thousand young residents of the Smolensk region.
