Tverenergo’s power engineers conducted unscheduled exercises to restore power supply

16.11.2017

On the site of IDGC of Centre - Tverenergo division an unplanned joint exercise was conducted to test the interaction of management bodies, forces and resources of the Crisis Management Centre for securing power supply of the Tver region, the General Directorate of the EMERCOM of Russia in the Tver region, a branch of PJSC "FGC UES" Valdai PMES, a branch of JSC "Russian Railways" "Transenergo" -October Directorate for Power Supply and MUE "Tvergorelectro" in the liquidation of emergency situations associated with the threat of a power failure in low-temperature conditions.

According to the legend of the exercises, in late December in the Tver region, strong wind gusts and icy rain led to massive outages of power grid facilities in the regional capital and Kalininsky district. In total, due to the unfavourable weather conditions, 42 thousand people were de-energized. Based on the input data, the exercises were conducted in two stages. The first is the organization of work of the Crisis Management Centre to eliminate the consequences of technological violations in the work of the power grid complex, which included representatives of all organizations participating in the exercises. With a limited amount of time, members of the Crisis Management Centre quickly evaluated the situation and discussed the necessary organizational measures.

After the theoretical stage of the exercise, the participants moved to the territory of the Tver production base of Tverenergo, where vehicles were presented, which, if necessary, would be directed to eliminate emergency situations in electric grids in conditions of low temperatures. After inspection of the rolling stock, practical skills began to be developed. Tverenergo’s specialists connected a backup power source to organize temporary power supply for a socially significant facility, demonstrated the skills of providing first aid to an electric shock victim using a simulator "Gosha dummy" and, together with the fire department’s crews, extinguished a transformer on fire. The professionalism of the participants and the coordinated actions in the performance of the work were appreciated by all the specialists present.

Such command post exercises are held regularly in the Tver branch of IDGC of Centre. Now, during the autumn-winter period, when the likelihood of an emergency situation increases, joint exercises are particularly relevant. "The livelihood of the population of the Tver region depends on power engineers, so at the time of serious violations of the electricity supply scheme, every minute is on the account. It is very important that the actions of power engineers, operators, rescuers and executive authorities are coordinated," Vadim Yurchenko, Deputy General Director of IDGC of Centre - Tverenergo division director, commented on the results of the exercises. "Such measures make it possible to achieve a high level of interaction and, thereby, to increase the efficiency of joint work in the event of failures at energy facilities."
