Kurskenergo actively combats theft of electricity

14.11.2017

IDGC of Centre - Kurskenergo division continues regular work to identify facts of non-metered and non-contractual electricity consumption. One of the most effective measures are raids, during which employees in Distribution Zones, electricity metering offices, together with security specialists of the branch, inspect power lines and meters for illegal connections.

As a result of this work for 9 months of 2017, the energy company identified 355 facts of non-contractual and non-metered consumption of electricity in total amount over 2.7 million kW/h. To date, more than 5.9 million rubles have already been collected from unscrupulous consumers, the remaining amount is being claimed.

"As a result of illegal connections to power lines and theft of electricity, bona fide consumers suffer. After all, funds received as payment for services for electricity transmission are used to improve the quality and reliability of the power grid infrastructure, commissioning additional capacity," stresses Dmitry Zheldakov, the head of the electricity metering department of IDGC of Centre - Kurskenergo division.

Kurskenergo pays a great deal of attention to prevention of energy theft. One of the most common violations allowed by consumers is interference in the work of electricity meters. To exclude access to contact connections and the case of meters without breaking seals of the grid company, Kurskenergo’s specialists have installed about 25,000 sealing labels on counters and about three thousand antimagnetic seals in the Kursk region since the beginning of the year.
