Belgorodenergo’s diagnostics service acquired a modern cable laboratory

20.10.2017

A multifunctional mobile cable laboratory of Russian manufacture, intended for fault locating in cable lines, was delivered to the diagnostics service of IDGC of Centre - Belgorodenergo division. The uniqueness of the new complex lies in the fully realized possibility of working with paper-oil insulation and with insulation made of cross-linked polyethylene.

The laboratory is equipped with modern diagnostic modules that are indispensable for testing, measuring, tracing and routine testing of cables. A built-in reflectometer, acoustic receiver, pulse generator with a receiver and headphones and other devices allow for a short period of time to locate and pinpoint the fault in a cable. This is extremely important for operation of lines in urban conditions, where the cable route is landscaped with asphalt or tile covering, and possibly with greens.

An additional advantage of the new laboratory is the availability of a backup power supply source. A 6 kW generator is installed in the test compartment of the car and is designed to ensure the operability of the installation in the absence of a stationary power supply. All diagnostic equipment of this ETL is certified, included in the State register of measuring instruments and passed mandatory certification.

In the plans for 2017 there is diagnostics and testing of 448 6-10 kV cable lines, 2,978 elements of electric line equipment and 35-110 kV substations, inspection and testing of 28.7 thousand transformer substations of 6-10/0.4 kV. For diagnosis of cable lines and substation equipment, the branch operates 22 mobile electrical laboratories.

"Determining the location of cable fault is one of the most difficult tasks with diagnostics equipment," says the head of the diagnostics service at Belgorodenergo Sergey Savchenko. "Recent advances in this direction make it possible to conduct tests with modern methods of non-destructive testing accurately, without damage to insulation, and with a high accuracy to determine the distance to the cable section with deteriorated insulation. This is especially true for cable lines that are in operation for more than 15 years - a high value of the test voltage for them can be "fatal".

The new laboratory has already been placed at the disposal of the southern section of the diagnostics service of IDGC of Centre - Belgorodenergo division and will make the assessment of the cable equipment more effective.
