Students of the branch of the National Research University PMEI in the city of Smolensk visited facilities of IDGC of Centre - Smolenskenergo division within the All-Russia Energy Saving Festival "TogetherBrighter".
The students visited the executive office of the branch, where an excursion to the Grid Control Centre (GCC) of Smolenskenergo was organized. There they were introduced not only to the structure of the branch and the Centre, with the peculiarity of the work of the dispatch centre, the necessary equipment for operators, but also told about the energy-efficient technologies that the branch uses in its work. These include: new power transformers with reduced losses of idling, cost-effective infrared heaters for heating substation premises, use of self-supporting insulated wires (SIW) for inputs of residential houses, which have increased reliability and fire safety, since short circuits are excluded due to clashing of wires, falling branches of trees and ice formation. The students were told about the automated system of commercial electricity metering (AMR), which allows the operator, without leaving his workplace, to remotely take on the PC readings of electricity meters and generate load schedules.
The excursion made a great impression on the students, because what they had seen only in textbooks was so close that it was possible to get acquainted in detail. The students asked questions about the necessary knowledge and skills for the operator’s profession, how fast switching is performed, about the advantages of modern electrical equipment in substations and other facilities of the branch.
