Belgorodenergo: art therapy to help learn the rules of electrical safety

28.08.2017

On the eve of the new school year, employees of IDGC of Centre – Belgorodenergo division arranged a cognitive holiday for pupils of the Veselolopan Social and Rehabilitation Centre for children with disabilities. The power engineers reminded the children how to behave in the vicinity of power facilities and held a master class on making "energy" crafts made of clay to fix the topic.

What is the danger of electric current, the consequences of inaccurate handling of it, how dangerous are games near substations and power lines. This was discussed in the lesson. During the dialogue, it became clear that the children already know a lot. For example, it is deadly to fish near a power line and throw any objects on the power line, climb up poles of lines and roofs of buildings where electrical communications pass, do selfie and graffiti at power facilities. During the lesson, the schoolchildren were told how to leave the zone of step voltage caused by the drop of the wire to the ground: in order not to fall under the influence of electric current, it is necessary to move away from the point of incidence slowly to a distance of 8-10 metres by a small goose step, and immediately report breakage to power engineers on the phone 13-50.

Having received full information about precautions, the children were happy to join the creative process. The electricians along with the head of the pottery studio "Len" conducted a master class on making ceramic souvenirs. The task given to the children was not easy: remember what concept the physicist gives the electric current, and then create with their own hands the real "electronics".

The children with ecstasy crushed and smoothed clay, invented details and accessories for their characters, painted unique figures, all with creative passion and zeal. As a result, there were two baskets of wonderful, multi-coloured "electronics". Once the crafts are dry, the master will burn them in the oven, and the ready-made bright souvenirs will return to the children as a reminder of the unusual occupation and rules that will help save a life.

At the end of the cognitive holiday the power engineers gave the pupils books of poems "ABC of electrical safety", thematic puzzles, crossword puzzles and colouring books. And then they handed over to the Rehabilitation Centre the development games and materials for applied art collected at the initiative of Belgorodenergo’s employees.

Please, be reminded that the centre’s employees provide comprehensive medical and psychological-pedagogical rehabilitation of children with cerebral palsy and various neurological disorders. With the purpose of development, personal and creative potential, individual programs on psycho-correction, socialization, development of the horizons of disabled children are implemented, and game and art therapy is actively used. One of the main components of the art therapy is applied creativity, this direction was focused by the power engineers in the course of conducting classes and collecting materials for creative work.
