Voronezhenergo’s specialists in the first half of the year revealed over a thousand facts of theft of electricity

09.08.2017

IDGC of Centre – Voronezhenergo division summed up the work to identify the theft of electricity for 6 months of 2017. During the indicated period, employees of Distribution Zones and the security unit of the branch conducted 443 raids, during which they revealed over a thousand facts of non-metered and non-contractual energy consumption with a total volume of 7.9 million kWh.

In all cases of the energy theft, acts were drawn up according to which unscrupulous consumers need to recover the damage to the grid company. With violators who do not voluntarily do so, the arrears will be collected in court, with all the legal costs incurred for the perpetrators.

Under the law, for unauthorized connection to electric grids or non-metered use of electricity, violators, in addition to compensating for the damage, also pay an administrative fine, which can reach two hundred thousand rubles. In the event of causing major damage criminal liability is provided to them, up to imprisonment for up to two years.

It should be noted that the actions of power thieves inflict damage to conscientious consumers as well: illegal connections can lead to overloads and malfunctions in the operation of power equipment, which leads to voltage fluctuations and the failure of household appliances.

Voronezhenergo urges residents of the Voronezh region to jointly fight energy thieves. Cases of theft of electric energy can be reported by the telephone of the direct line of power engineers at 8 800 50 50 115 (free of charge).
