Kurskenergo’s specialists continue to fight the spread of "modified" meters

09.08.2017

IDGC of Centre – Kurskenergo division conducts systematic work to prevent the use of "modified" meters, magnets and other devices capable of distorting the actual consumption of electrical energy by unscrupulous consumers.

Specialists of the security department of the branch regularly monitor the Internet, identifying sites that distribute information about these devices. In the first half of 2017, the power engineers discovered about 20 such network resources. Kurskenergo initiated an appeal to the prosecutor’s office of the Kursk region about their blocking and bringing to responsibility of persons engaged in the distribution of devices used to distort readings of meters.

The power engineers remind that unauthorized (non-metered) use of electric energy entails both administrative and criminal responsibility (Article 165 of the Criminal Code provides for punishment up to imprisonment).

It should also be remembered that thieves of electricity cause damage to conscientious consumers, exposing their lives and health to danger. Unauthorized connections cause grid voltage drops, and as a result, can cause short circuits, which often cause fires.

Kurskenergo asks residents of the Kursk region to report incidents of unauthorized connection to grids. This can be done by contacting any Distribution Zone of the branch, or by calling the 24-hour free direct line of power engineers at 8 800 50 50 115 (free of charge).
