Smolensk power engineers of IDGC of Centre got acquainted with the capabilities of "drones" during the inspection of power lines

19.06.2017

Power engineers of IDGC of Centre - Smolenskenergo division got acquainted with the work of the unmanned aerial vehicle ZALA 421-08. A demonstration overflight of the existing power line in Smolensky district (HVL-110kV Talashkino-Golynki) was conducted by representatives of the Forest Service and the Department of Forestry and lasted about half an hour. During this time, the sections of the overhead power line were successfully surveyed at the length of 10 km. As a result of the work of the UAV, the power engineers received more than five hundred photos from a height of 200 and 300 metres.

After the vehicle landed, the meeting participants discussed technical issues related to the possible scope of the device application. If necessary, the power engineers plan to use the capabilities of an unmanned aerial vehicle for aerial photography of power lines during the analysis and location of faults of lines during the emergency recovery work with multiple interruptions. Especially this will significantly reduce the time and effort spent on locating damaged power lines in hard-to-reach areas with swampy or wooded terrain, lack of access roads, washed way or snowy roads.

When driving a UAV, you can take into account the specifics of power lines and correct the flight on the map in manual mode, the device also operates in automatic mode without the operator’s participation with the previously specified coordinates.
