Kurskenergo conducts systematic work on prevention of children’s electric injuries

Prevention of children’s electric injuries is one of the priority activities of IDGC of Centre - Kurskenergo division. Work in this area is conducted by the company’s specialists annually. These activities are especially relevant during the school holidays, when children spend more time in the street and often remain unattended by their parents.

The set of measures for the prevention of children’s electric injuries includes the organization of lessons and class hours in the schools of the city of Kursk and districts of the Kursk region, holding meetings and educational conversations with holiday makers in summer health camps.

Since the beginning of the year, Kurskenergo’s specialists have conducted more than 70 thematic lessons on electrical safety in general education institutions, over 1,300 children took part in them. For schoolchildren, excursions were also made to the museum of Kurskenergo, where the children learned the history of the branch and watched videos about the danger of electric current. In addition, the energy company gave to the schools about 3,000 brochures, colouring books, schedules of lessons with pictures on electrical safety.

To increase the effectiveness of preventive measures along the streets of the city a trolleybus runs with pictures and slogans placed on the sides, devoted to the prevention of children’s electric injuries. The organizer of the event was Kurskenergo. The action is aimed at informing schoolchildren about the rules of electrical safety in the framework of a comprehensive program to reduce risks of injuries to third parties at power facilities, supported by the Kursk Education Committee.

Also, this Program provides for the implementation of a whole range of measures for the technical improvement of the operation of electrical installations. All of them are held in full and on time. Energy facilities of Kurskenergo are regularly inspected by specialists, the integrity of doors, locks, the presence of locking devices, warning posters is checked.

More than 3,800 information signs and posters warning the public about the danger of electric current are posted in settlements in the districts of the region near public places and children’s institutions.

"Protecting children from possible injuries while dealing with electricity is one of our important tasks," says Victor Sokolov, the deputy chief engineer and head of industrial safety and production control of IDGC of Centre - Kurskenergo division. "Besides us, power engineers, teachers, parents should regularly remind children of the rules of using electrical appliances and safe behaviour near power facilities so as not to put their lives at risk."
