Bryanskenergo explains: electric power theft damages consumers

IDGC of Centre – Bryanskenergo division summed up the work on combating theft of electricity for four months of 2017. During the reporting period, as a result of raids conducted by employees of the branch, in some cases together with representatives of law enforcement bodies, 341 facts of non-contractual and non-metered consumption were revealed. Over the same period last year, 155 cases of theft were recorded.

The most common method of theft is to connect the load before the meter, which is revealed during the testing of the measuring unit. There are also cases of interference in the operation of metering devices to distort the results of their measurements.

Wrongful actions of thieves, above all, harm their health and pose a threat to their lives. In addition, theft leads to power failures of good consumers, increases the probability of failure of their household appliances.

Unpaid electricity is the underfunding of production programs of the energy company, on the successful implementation of which the reliable uninterrupted operation of the region’s energy system depends.
