Smolenskenergo’s Youth Council conducted an ecological clean-up event in Smolensk Lakeland

Representatives of the Youth Council of IDGC of Centre – Smolenskenergo division initiated an ecological clean-up event in the territory of the National Park "Smolensk Lakeland". The National Park has the status of a key ornithological territory of international importance, is included in the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves.

In Dendropark, located near the village of Boroviki, the young people of the energy company put in order pharmacy flower beds of exhibition plants and bushes, the adjacent territory was planted and prepared for planting, the territory of planting of rare plants was removed from foliage and other natural debris.

"Improvement activities in the arboretum were aimed at maintaining and improving the aesthetic state of the territory and were part of IDGC of Centre’s project "Green Distribution Zone", timed to coincide with the Year of Ecology," noted Alexey Magon, chairman of the Youth Council of the branch.

At the end of the event, workers of the arboretum in the phytocentre treated the power engineers with tea, brewed from the grasses, flowers and leaves of plants gathered around. The management of the National Park "Smolensk Lakeland" thanked the power engineers for their initiative and assistance.

This is not the first aid to the park, in 2012 representatives of the Youth Council of Smolenskenergo together with employees of Demidovsky Distribution Zone planted more than 40 pine trees in the territory of the arboretum, most of which are still growing.

All environmental activities this year are carried out by the power engineers within the framework of the program of IDGC of Centre "Green Distribution Zone". Earlier, within the framework of the project, collection of used batteries was organized in the customer service centers of Smolensk and Smolensk City Distribution Zone for subsequent disposal. Other Distribution Zones also joined the initiative. And on the International Day of Birds (1 April), employees of Kholm-Zhirkovsky Distribution Zone made and hung birdhouses.
