In 2016 specialists of IDGC of Centre – Smolenskenergo division maintained 34,236 lighting fixtures and 3,071 km of street lighting lines. The work was carried out in the framework of municipal contracts, concluded with municipalities of the Smolensk region.
Within the framework of the provision of the value-added service "Organization of street lighting systems" Smolenskenergo on a contract basis performs a set of activities on maintenance of street lighting systems (replacement of lamps, lighting fixtures, wiring, installation of poles, street lighting control). Under certain requests extra fixtures are installed and street lighting networks are constructed. The power company performs the work with use of modern technologies. All work is done by qualified personnel and in time.
To date, the energy efficiency of street lighting is becoming increasingly important for the city budget. Therefore, more and more often in the streets they try to install LED lighting, which significantly saves energy, resistant to low temperatures, does not overheat, uniformly illuminates carriageways of roads and streets, and does not require expensive disposal after use. Currently 1,614 LED lighting fixtures have been installed in the Smolensk region in the city of Smolensk, Rudnya, the settlement of Dukhovschina and the settlement of Glinka.
The main way to save electricity for street lighting may include the use of various automated street lighting control systems. Currently in the city of Smolensk the previously installed by the branch equipment is in operation: 40 panels of automated control for street lighting systems with the Kurs series controllers that can improve reliability and energy efficiency of city street lighting at night.
