Smolenskenergo controls safety at its power facilities

Questions to prevent and reduce occupational injuries, safety, health and lives of personnel are priority tasks for IDGC of Centre – Smolenskenergo division. About 46.5 million rubles were spent on the implementation of safety measures for 10 months of 2016.

The priority directions in the field of occupational safety are measures to prevent accidents and occupational diseases and improve the working conditions of staff, purchase of personal protective equipment, tools and accessories. Work is underway to provide staff with modern means of protection, in particular, first responding mobile and maintenance crews are provided with sets of bars to install portable earthing on overhead lines without climbing poles, both for 6-10 kV overhead lines and 0.4 kV ones. First responding and maintenance personnel is fully equipped with suits, resistant to electric arc.

In 2016 302 workplaces of the branch had a special evaluation of working conditions in accordance with applicable law. Working conditions of employees of the branch were estimated, measures were developed to improve conditions in the workplace, where harmful production factors were identified.

One of the important directions in the field of occupational safety and health in Smolenskenergo also includes training employees in safe methods and techniques of work, improving knowledge in the field of labour protection and examination of staff. First of all, the knowledge of rules on occupational safety in the operation of electrical installations, technical operation rules and fire safety is checked, testing of skills in first aid in case of accidents at work is also conducted. The central commission of the branch tested knowledge of 140 managers and specialists of the branch, more than 900 employees were tested in commissions of structural units.

The branch is concerned not only about the safety of its own employees, but also works to reduce the risk of injury to third-parties at Smolenskenergo’s facilities. In accordance with the program of reduction of risk of injury to third parties a set of measures is carried out to bring in compliance the technical condition of electrical installations with requirements for safe operation. Smolenskenergo’s power facilities are examined regularly by commissions of power engineers: the integrity of the door locks, the presence of locking devices. To inform the public at all power facilities of the branch signs and placards are posted, warning of the danger of electric shock.

Particular attention is paid to outreach work among different population groups. Experts of the branch have conversations at children’s health camps and electrical safety classes are held in schools of the Smolensk region. Throughout the school year, Smolensk power engineers attend schools of the region, where together with teachers hold special sessions on electrical safety, as well as extracurricular activities. By the end of the year Smolenskenergo’s power engineers will continue performing consistent and regular work to prevent electric injuries among residents of the region.
