Construction crew started taking readings of electricity meters

04.08.2016
A group of members of the construction crew of the branch of "National Research University "MPEI" in the city of Smolensk, which began 1 July to work at energy facilities of the region under the guidance of experts of IDGC of Centre - Smolenskenergo division, has been involved in meter readings. Until mid-August the group of students of the construction crew will check electricity meters at households and legal entities on the territory of the Smolensk region. The main task is to collect complete and accurate information on the amount of electricity consumption in the region.

One day each member of the construction crew, working in the team, takes about 20-25 readings from residential customers and legal entities. Thus, for one and a half month of work it is scheduled to take more than 6,000 readings. Basically, houses of the private sector are in the centre of attention. The students have already passed the necessary training and coaching and got to work.

"Under the existing legislation the consumer is obliged to give current readings of electricity meters to a sales or grid company. However, power engineers regularly check readings of meters to determine how much electricity has been delivered, and how much has been paid for by the consumer. It helps the branch reliably generate useful amounts of electricity supply to consumers and to carry out measures to reduce the level of losses. Meter reading raids also help identify defective devices and illegal consumption of electricity," explained the head of the electricity metering office Oleg Bonadysev. "Participation in raids of the construction crew is a kind of aid and acceleration of checks by increasing the number of personnel involved." Almost the entire staff of Smolenskenergo is engaged in these raids twice a year.

"Working in the excellent friendly team of the construction crew "Energet", we get invaluable experience in our specialty, and improve our communication skills with people, which in the future will be useful for sure," commented a member of the construction crew Anton Zhukov.
