Questions to prevent and reduce occupational injuries, occupational safety, health and lives of personnel are priority tasks for IDGC of Centre - Smolenskenergo division. About 28 million rubles were spent to implement labour protection measures for 6 months of 2016.

The priority directions in the field of occupational safety are measures to prevent accidents, purchase personal protective equipment, tools and appliances, events for prevention of diseases in the workplace, measures to improve working conditions of staff.

One of the important directions in the field of occupational safety and health of employees in Smolenskenergo includes training employees in safe methods and techniques for conducting works, increasing knowledge in the field of occupational health and safety as well as safety knowledge checks of relevant staff. The rules on occupational safety knowledge in the operation of electrical installations, technical operation rules and fire safety conditions were first checked, testing of skills in first aid in case of accidents at work was also conducted. Every month the central commission of the branch tested knowledge on average of 14 managers and employees of the branch, in commissions of subdivisions -90 employees.

The branch is concerned not only about the safety of its own employees, but also works to reduce the risk of injury to third-parties at Smolenskenergo’s facilities. In 2016 a program to reduce the risk of injury to third persons included the implementation of a set of measures to improve the technical operation of electrical installations and prevention of electric injuries. All of them were carried out in full and on time. Smolenskenergo’s power facilities are examined regularly by commissions of the power company: they check integrity of door locks, presence of locking devices. To inform the public the branch places on all power facilities signs and posters, warning of the danger of electric shock.

Particular attention is paid to outreach work among different population groups. Experts of the branch conduct conversations in children’s health camps and electrical safety lessons in schools of the Smolensk region. Throughout the academic year, Smolensk power engineers attend schools of the region, where, together with teachers hold special sessions on electrical safety, as well as extracurricular activities. By the end of the year Smolenskenergo’s power engineers will continue maintaining the consistent and systematic work to prevent electric injuries among residents of the region.
