Smolenskenergo produced the preliminary results of the summer control measurement of electrical loads and voltage levels in the grids

28.06.2016

15 June 2016, IDGC of Centre - Smolenskenergo division held a regular summer control measurement of electrical loads and voltage levels in the grids. As part of the activities power engineers carried out hourly control measurements of the actual flow distribution, voltages and loads in the nodes, load power connected to the emergency control and included in the schedules of temporary outages. Control time to determine the measurements was established by the Regional dispatch control centre of power grids of the Kaluga, Bryansk and Smolensk regions (Smolensk Transmission Control Centre).

According to the service of electric modes of the Grid Control Centre of IDGC of Centre - Smolenskenergo division, the maximum power consumption of electrical power by the company was around 500 MW, which corresponds to the last year’s indicators. Connection of new customers to the branch grid allows to maintain a high level of energy consumption in the conditions of a crisis. Thus, the load of the commissioned at the end of 2015 new 110 kV Substation "Sofia" is already more than 10 MW - a third of the capacity of the applicant’s technical requirements. "It should be noted that the load of such industrial customers does not decrease in the summer minimum and makes it possible not only to increase profits of the enterprise from the grid connection and delivery of electricity, but also most fully to carry out tasks of the System Operator on schedules of automatic frequency load shedding and emergency restrictions," commented the head of the service of electric modes of Smolenskenergo Alexey Magon.

In 2016, thanks to the modernization of the system for collecting and transmitting data and the Automated control and energy metering (AMR) the number of substations of 35-110 kV was increased to 52, where a control measurement is carried out without the involvement of staff and equipment with the use of the operative-information complex, AMR software, special programs -macros integrated into Microsoft Excel. This allows not only to get the most accurate data and to simplify their handling, but also reduce the transportation costs of the branch and significantly reduce labour costs.

Obtained on the basis of the reference measurement data allow to balance the operating modes of electrical grids and carry out long-term and short-term load planning. Measurement results are used to develop schemes of perspective development of the power system, the formation of schedules of emergency restrictions, as well as the setting of emergency control devices. All these activities are ultimately designed to improve the efficiency of the Smolensk energy system, prevent technological breakdowns and failures in electric power supply to consumers.

Also, according to the results of control measurements a list of 35-110 kV substations is compiled, substations are selected and controlled, where emergency load following the results of the control measurements was greater than 75%. In the future, this information is taken into account when considering applications for grid connection to these supply centres.
