Orelenergo held an excursion for students

Employees of IDGC of Centre - Orelenergo division conducted a tour of Mtsensky Distribution Zone for the 3rd year students of the Orel State University. The students of electricity specialties got acquainted with the activity of the production unit and its specialists and visited the substation "Mtsensk".

Before the start of the tour the power engineers conducted safety training for the participants. A safety engineer Vladimir Mertsalov told the students about electrical safety regulations, risks of electric shock and how to provide first aid.

The introduction of the students began with the story of Chief of Operation and Technology Group Pavel Bogdanov about the history of the electricity sector of the Orel region, the industry reforming, the structure and core activities of IDGC of Centre. Then they visited the control room of the operational and dispatching service of the Distribution Zone, which operators are on duty around the clock. They control the load of transmission lines and power transformers, monitor the voltage level, receive consumer calls and perform operational switching. The wiring diagram of the entire district, represented on the control panel, helps operators make informed decisions in case of emergency, as soon as possible to restore power supply to consumers.

The tour continued at the substation 220/110/10 kV "Mtsensk", where the future power engineers learned what indoor and outdoor switchgear and control gear are. The students with interest viewed high-voltage equipment, studied its design, asked questions and shared experiences.

"As part of the educational program students receive mainly theoretical knowledge. Excursions to the existing electric power facilities help them in practice get an idea about the industry and their future specialization, study electrical equipment, learn about nuances of the chosen profession," stressed Chief of Mtsensky Distribution Zone of IDGC of Centre - Orelenergo division Pyotr Abramov.
