Smolensk power engineers of IDGC of Centre on the eve of the 71st anniversary of the Great Victory honoured the memory of fallen soldiers-liberators and congratulated veterans

Employees of the Smolensk branch of IDGC of Centre are actively involved in the celebrations commemorating the 71sth anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. So, on the eve of the feast the power engineers took part in the solemn meeting, held at the military burial "Blade" in the city of Smolensk. The event was attended by representatives of local government of the city-hero of Smolensk, military units, veterans of the Great Patriotic War, students and pupils of educational institutions of the city, as well as other power utilities of the Smolensk region. After the rally, which ended with a minute of silence, representatives of the Youth Council, the Veterans’ Council, the department of social relations, the department of public relations and union organization of Smolenskenergo laid wreaths on the graves of soldiers, who died in the battles for the Smolensk land.

Solemn meetings with the participation of power engineers were also held in the cities of military glory Yelnya and Vyazma, and in other district centres of the Smolensk region.

Among Smolenskenergo’s veterans currently there are 4 veteran of the Great Patriotic War, 21 veterans of the labor front, 16 prisoners of concentration camps and one resident of besieged Leningrad. The power engineers do not forget their older colleagues, so annually honour former employees of Smolenskenergo - witnesses of that terrible war. Congratulations at the gala event, held 6 May 2016, were pronounced by leaders of the branch, representatives of the trade union organization, the Youth Council and the Veterans’ Council s of Smolenskenergo. The veterans had the opportunity to meet together for a festive dinner, chat with the company’s management, the youth, and accept congratulations. The participants of the war and home front workers were handed flowers and gifts, and they, in turn, shared their memories of the war and post-war reconstruction of the Smolensk energy system.

Before the feast members of Youth Council placed greeting cards at entrances of houses of 19 war veterans living in the city of Smolensk. In addition to warm words of congratulations for the veterans, the leaflet tells about their exploits and fate of the people living with them in the same house, so that their neighbours are able to get to know and greet them, whose childhood and youth passed in the horrors of the war years. This event has been held for the third year, in 2016 it has been joined by colleagues from other branches of IDGC of Centre.
