Kurskenergo performs the program of clearing and expansion of ROWs of power lines

19.04.2016

IDGC of Centre - Kurskenergo division continues its work on clearing and extension of ROWs of overhead power lines. For today, power engineers have cleared 243.8 hectares, extended 14.8 hectares of ROWs along power lines. Total for 2016 Kurskenergo plans to clear of trees and shrubs an area of over 1,040 hectares. On overhead power lines of 35-110 kV very significant amount of work will be carried out in Manturovsky, Khomutovsky and Zheleznogorsky districts, on lines of 0.4 -10 kV - in Glushkovsky, Kastorensky and Rylsky districts.

Use of modern tools and machinery allows to accelerate the time of work performance and increase productivity of power engineers. Crews are equipped with chain saws and brush cutters "Husqvarna" - they are easy to operate, reliable and do not require great physical exertion. They also use a high permeability mechanical wood shredder (mulcher), which provides continuous grinding of vegetation into chips, which are subsequently not required to be disposed of. This reduces the amount of manual labour.

The work on clearing and extension of ROWs is performed to reduce the number of technological failures caused by falling trees and branches on wires of overhead lines passing through woodlands. "Implementation of these activities is one of the important conditions for the preparation of electric grid facilities for failure-free operation through the autumn-winter period," stresses First Deputy Director – Chief Engineer of IDGC of Centre - Kurskenergo division Vyacheslav Istomin.
