15.04.2016

In connection with the onset of the fire season and increased risk of emergency specialists of IDGC of Centre - Smolenskenergo division have begun to implement a set of measures to improve the reliability and safety of operation of power facilities.

Ongoing activities are aimed both at ensuring fire safety of equipment, buildings and structures in the production process and protection of the equipment from effects of wildfires. The action plan was developed based on a thorough analysis of the results of the operation through the fire hazardous period in previous years.

In preparation for the fire-dangerous period all production units of Smolenskenergo are performing planned activities of organizational and technical nature. They are checking the status of fire-fighting equipment and primary fire extinguishing means. To protect substation equipment (SS) of 35-110 kV without solid concrete fencing and located in areas of fire risk on the ground fires, they are performing fire-line plowing around their perimeter with a width of at least 2 m. The premises of the SS are carefully cleared of dry grass.

In addition, the branch is holding emergency and fire staff training, during which they work out the mechanism of interaction of power engineers of Smolenskenergo and specialized units - General Directorate of EMERCOM of Russia in the Smolensk region, local authorities, meteorological services, and forestry agencies.

Particular attention will be given to checking, and if necessary, restoring highwall guards of oil-filled equipment. They will perform other preparatory activities as well.

An important aspect of the program of fire prevention measures is organization of interaction of specialists of Smolenskenergo with heads of municipalities and managers of agricultural enterprises to conduct explanatory work with the population of regions about the importance of compliance with basic fire safety measures in security zones of power lines and premises of power facilities.

"The main task of the branch before the beginning of the fire season is to implement all necessary measures to prevent fires at power facilities. It is timely implementation of organizational and technical preparation for the fire-dangerous period allows to minimize the possibility of failures or even to avoid them," explained an engineer in industrial safety of category 1 of production control department of Smolenskenergo Victor Kadykov. "Preparation for this period requires more attention, particularly in connection with the onset of hot weather."
