In March 2016 specialists of the public relations office and energy saving and energy efficiency office of IDGC of Centre – Smolenskenergo division held an energy conservation lesson for schoolchildren of the second form of school №33 in the city of Smolensk. This lesson was attended by 29 schoolchildren.
The energy conservation lesson was conducted according to the developed by IDGC of Centre gaming scenario "Energy defenders’ team". The host of the lesson performed Energy and the kids played the role of the mythical characters of Light, Cold, Television and Boogie Man, speaking in verse about electricity, heating, household appliances, solving riddles and puzzles. Together with the rest of the class they were trying to understand how electricity is generated, which natural resources are used for its production, why it is necessary to save energy and how energy conservation rules are to be applied at home and at school. At the lesson the schoolchildren learned and remembered how efficiently and with the lowest cost of electricity use common household appliances such as a vacuum cleaner, an air conditioner, a washing machine, a computer, a TV set, a refrigerator, an iron, and a kettle. In addition, the children as visual aids were provided colourful books on energy saving by IDGC of Centre. When deciding on the tasks in them during the lesson, the second-graders found out that the incandescent lamp should be replaced with energy-efficient, leaving the room or classroom - lights and electrical appliances should be turned off, windows and lamp shades - should be kept clean, they should close the door and the window, when the air conditioner is working, and more.
"The theme is very relevant," underlines the teacher of 2 "D" class of school № 33 in the city of Smolensk Svetlana Melentyeva. "Since the material picked up is interesting, colourful and consistent with the age peculiarities of the schoolchildren, the children really enjoyed the event. The class was held in the form of a game based on the life experience of the children, and the kids were very actively involved in the work, listened to and answered questions with interest. The event was held at a high level, for which many thanks to the power engineers."
Building a culture of respect for the electric energy at home and at school with the younger generation is an actual problem today, which is part of the state program of energy saving and energy efficiency.
